Hire the Performance Hall

The Robert James Hall is a magnificent venue for conferences, wedding receptions, parties, exhibitions and other large scale events. It comprises a large performance hall, entrance foyer, gallery and dance studio.

Options in the Performance Hall include electrically retractable tiered seating, a flexible de-mountable stage, professional theatre lighting and sound re-enforcement. Full height curtains add further flexibility, closing to make the space smaller and intimate or opening out to welcome larger shows.

With the retractable seating extended the maximum capacity for a performance is 450, the standing capacity (without any seating) is 650.

The adjoining gallery, dance studio and gymnasium can be used as additional space for large events and exhibitions.

The highly versatile nature of the venue means that we can offer an appropriately sized venue for your event making it a great place to come and present your show.

Social Events

Social events at Comberton Sports & Arts can range from quiz nights, comedy and cabaret nights, charity auctions, through to large scale May Balls with full music, bar and catering services.

Wedding Receptions

Large, modern, flexible, excellent service standards, first-class catering, advanced technical facilities, easy access and free car parking right outside the venue. Comberton Sports & Arts is a great for wedding receptions especially when catering for large numbers (up to 700 spread over three halls). We can offer a very competitive package tailored to your needs.

Conferences and Exhibitions

If you want to do business, then come to Comberton Sports & Arts! We can cater for a range of private, public and third sector conferences and exhibitions. Our flexible spaces and ample parking with easy access to the road network makes us a good choice for local, regional and national conferences.

Technical Stuff

Sound: Facilities include a mixer, CD, cassette and mini disc player, 24 XLR tie-lines from the stage area to the patch bay in the sound room and a selection of dynamic and wireless microphones and stands. Crown power amps to Brooke speakers are suitable for most spoken word, dance and theatre events. Additional PA equipment can be hired in for rock bands or you can use your own rig!

Lighting: The Performance Hall has a 48 channel 15 amp lighting grid with a selection of profile spots, fresnels, par cans and floods. In addition we have 16 independent 13amp sockets distributed on the lighting bars for special effects and moving heads. The grid is controlled by a Zero 88 Jester ML48 and there are numerous options for additional DMX inputs around the venue and in the lighting room, making the hall a versatile space for lighting designers.

Other Technical Facilities: A powerful digital projector, electrically operated screen and VGA connection for a laptop computer or component connectors for DVD. We have a talk-back system to key positions around the venue, hand held radios for stewards and FOH staff and a paging system to get messages to backstage and front of house. The Performance Hall is fitted with an Induction Audio Loop facility to improve access and enjoyment for those visitors who are hard of hearing.

For all our events we have skilled in-house technicians and great contacts to a wide range of suppliers.

Box Office Services

We can set up online ticket sales via WeGotTickets. Events promoted at CSA and open to the public also receive valuable free publicity on the Comberton Sports & Arts website.

Visitors with Disabilities

We are keen to welcome visitors with disabilities to Comberton Sports & Arts.

All areas of the complex are wheelchair accessible, with the exception of the first floor Gallery above the Performance Hall lobby.

There are five designated 'Disabled' parking spaces, reserved for the use of permit holders, located directly outside the Performance Hall entrance.

We have two designated toilet facilities suitable for wheelchair users and for visitors with disabilities. These are situated in the Fitness Centre and the Performance Hall. Please ask at the CSA Reception Desk if you need assistance with location or access.

The Performance Hall is fitted with an Induction Audio Loop facility to improve access and enjoyment for visitors who are hard of hearing.
